Conference Speakers

Ron Clark, Robert J. Marzano and Mike Flanagan will keynote Annual Conference

Ron Clark, the 2000 Disney American Teacher of the Year,  Ed Barlow, president of Creating the Future, and Robert J. Marzano, leading researcher and author, will keynote the 2009 Annual Conference at Austin, Texas, Dec. 2-5.

Clark, whose work with disadvantaged students in rural North Carolina and in inner city Harlem gained international attention, was the subject of the made-for-TV movie, “The Ron Clark Story” with Matthew Perry playing the lead role. He has been named by Oprah Winfrey as her first “Phenomenal Man.” When Disney discontinued sponsorship of the Teacher of the Year program, AESA Business Partner Great American Financial Resources became the program sponsor. Great American Financial Resources is sponsoring Clark's appearance at the Annual Conference.

 

Marzano is a leading researcher in education. He is a speaker, trainer, and author of more than 30 books and 150 articles on topics such as instruction, assessment, writing and implementing standards, cognition, effective leadership, and school intervention. Among his books are Designing & Teaching Learning Goals & Objectives, District Leadership That Works, Designing & Assessing Educational Objectives, Making Standards Useful in the Classroom, and The Art and Science of Teaching.

 

Mike Flanagan was appointed State Superintendent of Public Instruction by the State Board of Education on May 18, 2005 .  He directs the Michigan Department of Education; chairs the State Board of Education; and advises the State Board of Education, the Governor, and the state Legislature regarding public education in Michigan.

Mike has been a local school superintendent, regional superintendent, and served as the Executive Director of the statewide associations that represent Michigan public school superintendents and intermediate school districts in the state.

The Annual Conference will also feature a leadership summit preconference organized by the National Association of Media and Technology Centers and concurrent sessions by ESAs in five strands:
