Keynote Speakers

Michael Fullan is professor emeritus at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Recognized as an international authority on organizational change, he is engaged in training, consulting, and evaluating change projects around the world. He is the author of The Six Secrets of Change and the bestselling books Leading in a Culture of Change and Turnaround Leadership. Two of his most current books include: Change Leader: Learning to Do What Matters Most, 2011 and All Systems Go: The Change Imperative for Whole System Reform, 2010. Join him on Thursday to glean from his expertise on strategic change for today’s world.

David A. Sousa, an international consultant in educational neuroscience, has conducted hundreds of workshops on brain research and education at the PreK-12 and university levels. He has served as a high school science teacher, a K–12 director of science, a supervisor of instruction, and a district superintendent in New Jersey schools. A past president of the National Staff Development Council (now Learning Forward), he has edited science books and published numerous articles on staff development, science education, and brain research. His latest book is the Corwin bestseller, How the Brain Learns, now in its fourth edition. He will speak to us on Friday morning.

Adora Svitak Since age 7, Adora Svitak has been drumming up excitement about reading and writing. Diane Sawyer called her “a tiny literary giant” on Good Morning America. Now 13, Adora has authored three books and taught over 400 schools and classrooms worldwide, via video conferencing and in-person visits. In February 2011, she received the NEA Foundation’s Award for Outstanding Service to Public Education.
As a passionate advocate for youth voice, particularly in education, Adora’s audience includes teachers and adults as well as students; she shares her “kid’s eye view” on numerous issues as a guest blogger for the Huffington Post and speaker at education conferences worldwide. In February 2010, Adora presented at TED—becoming the youngest ever person to do so. Adora champions a wide variety of causes, including literacy, student voice, and fighting world hunger (as a Youth Representative for the United Nations’ World Food Programme). Years of writing, teaching, and giving speeches might seem like enough for anyone, but Adora has maintained that she doesn’t plan on retiring soon. She will be our speaker on Saturday morning.
